1 Johnson, Sir William PAPERS OF SIR WILLIAM JOHNSON (14 VOL. COMPLETE SET)
NY University of the State of New York 1921 1st Edition hardcover Fine
Complete in 14, Published between 1921 with index published in 1965. Scarce to find complete set in original blue cloth bindings, all vols are very good to fine with some minor spotting to covers on a few volumes. Photos available. Over all a very clean, tight and attractive set free of markings. The 14th or Index volume is an ex-library with usual marks. The rest of the set are NOT ex-library. Johnson (1715-1774) was the Superintendent-General of Indian Affairs for the British with estates in the Mohawk River Valley of New York. He was instrumental in opening up that region to settlement and driving French from the territories north of the Ohio River. Much of the original papers were lost in the 1911 NY Historical Soc. Fire. These papers are a treasure trove of information on the French and Indian War, colonial/Indian interaction, and the early American frontier.
